PS5: OUTPUT DATE, PRICE, CHARACTERISTICS, GAMES AND MUCH OTHER
A little over a year is left until the next generation of the console, and rumors of a PS5 are beginning to intensify. Sony has already confirmed the name and release of the next-generation console, and has even allowed several official specifications to slip into the air. But we still don’t know much, so we collect all the rumors about the PS5 that we hear.
PS5: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
LATEST NEWS AND HEARINGS PS5 (NOVEMBER 2019)
Speaking
to GamesIndustry.biz, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan says the company wants to
transfer gamers from PS4 to PS5 “on a scale and at a pace that we have never
achieved before,” thanks to the games.
Ubisoft
has confirmed that several of its upcoming games, including Watch Dogs Legion,
Rainbow Six Quarantine and Gods and Monsters, will be ported to next-generation
systems.
PS5 CHARACTERISTICS
The console will run on a third-generation processor based on the
third-generation AMD Ryzen eight-core processor, as well as on a custom GPU
based on the AMD Radeon Navi line. This video card will allow the PS5 to
perform ray tracing, which is an ultra-realistic lighting technology that has
gained popularity for the first time with Nvidia's RTX cards.
According to a Twitter translation from renowned hardware teacher Komachi
Ensaka, the fast 2GHz PS5 GPU can double the power of the Xbox One X and
provide performance comparable to the Nvidia RTX 2080.
The
processor of the system allows you to play 3D audio, which promises to be more
exciting than the PS4 processor, regardless of whether you play with headphones
or through the speakers of the TV. PS5's massive power also allows resolutions
up to 8K (for reference, PS4 Pro max at 4K.) The PlayStation 5 will also have a
4K Blu-ray player for physical drives.
Cerny
noted that the system will be equipped with a high-speed drive (SSD) for faster
loading of games. At the demo, Cerny revealed that the new SSD system, the
Marvel Spider-Man segment, which usually took 15 seconds to load, took less
than a second. In addition, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will support
physical disks. Continuing the release of Wired in October, Cerny also noted
that SSDs can allow players to download certain fragments of games, such as a
storyline campaign or multiplayer pack.
Sony has
once again demonstrated how powerful the new SSD system will be at a corporate
strategy meeting in May. In a statement released after the meeting, Sony noted
that the next-generation PlayStation will deliver a more immersive experience
with “significantly increased graphics rendering speed through the use of even
greater processing power and a dedicated ultra-fast broadband solid state
drive”.
PS5 CONTROLLER
In
October 2019, Sony provided Wired with an exclusive review of the next
DualShock, the design of which is reportedly very similar to DualShock 4. It
seems that the new controller has some kind of microphone (possibly for the
system’s voice assistant) and will support tactile feedback for deeper immersion
in sound.
In Wired
demos, Sony demonstrated how a controller can help you feel the difference
between a track and dirt in a racing game or the
difference
between sliding on sand and sliding on ice in a platform. The new DualShock
will also be equipped with adaptive triggers that will allow you to better feel
the tactile feel of things like archery and arrow or off-road driving.
PS5 DESIGN:
A Sony patent, opened in August 2019, can
give us an idea of the potential design of the PS5. The image shows a game
console, which looks like a lumpy console with many USB ports, a disk drive and
a unique V-shaped chassis that allows you to keep the system cool.
Lets Go Digital employees simulated their
own PS5 rendering based on proprietary images, proving that the weird shape may
actually turn out to be an attractive game console.
Images from the alleged set of PS5 devices
were sent to people from Gizmodo, which are reportedly identical to the images
of patents circulating for several months. Moreover, the report states that
both the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will be equipped with integrated cameras to
ensure smooth operation in real time.
In October 2019, images of an alleged set
of devices leaked through Zone of Tech. In them we see the same bulky design,
with several USB ports, a Blu-ray drive and power, reset and eject buttons.
PS5
FEATURES: VR, CLOUD GAMES AND MUCH MORE
We already know that the PS5 will support
the PlayStation VR headset and can open a new version of the popular virtual
reality accessory, possibly called PSVR 2. A new patent indicates that cameras
on PSVR 2 are going to replace the PlayStation camera that comes with the
original PSVR. Theoretically, this should make your movements more accurate. In
addition, the cameras in front of the headset will let you see what is
happening around you, so that everything will look transparent. The patent also
indicates that PSVR 2 can even be wireless.
But here is where things get really
interesting: in May 2019, Sony and Microsoft announced an unexpected partnership
in which both companies will share resources to promote their own cloud games,
AI and enterprise products. Does this mean that the PS5 will have an improved
version of the PlayStation Now or a completely new cloud platform to compete
with Google Stadia? We'll have to wait and see.
PS5 PRICE
The PS4 found great success, giving way to
the Xbox One at launch for $ 399, but the PS5 might not be that affordable. In
a quarterly forecast (according to Twinfinite), Ace Research Institute analyst
Hideki Yasuda predicts that the system will start for $ 499, which is $ 100
more than on PS4 and PS4 Pro at launch.
PS5 GAMES:
TITLES TO BE EXPECTED.
While the PS5 has not yet been confirmed,
it is too early to judge what ownership rights may fall on the next-generation Sony
system. Ghosts of Tsushima have not yet received a release date, which means
that we could see how they got right into the PS4 and PS5. And while we are
thinking about whether we can see the sequels with PS4 megahits God of War,
Horizon: Zero Dawn and Spider-Mank on PS-5.
Now we know that the long-awaited edition
of The Last of Us: Part II is coming to PS4 on May 29, 2020. And while PS4
games will run on PS5, it’s not surprising that a new version has appeared for
the new console, similar to Sony, which comes with The Last of Us: Remastered
on the PS4.
For third-party games, Bethesda has already
confirmed that its upcoming Starfield game is a new generation game. We would
also not be shocked that The Elder Scrolls VI and Cyberpunk 2077 ended up on
Sony's next-generation hardware. And since they are being released as a watch,
expect new Madden, NBA 2K, and FIFA games to appear in the PS5 launch window.
Ubisoft confirmed in a conference call that
the following games, such as Watch Dogs Legion, Gods and Monsters, and Rainbow
Six Quarantine, will be optimized for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
